River’s Edge Cafe

Getting to find a restaurant like this is a reason why I began my quest for deals in the first place. A basic question I was trying to answer: with the current recession, are bars/restaurants trying to promote some added business with discounts, deals? With their aptly named “Recession Buster Lunch Menu,” the answer is a YES at the River’s Edge Cafe .” Try not to bust out in tears of joy.

DEALS:

Recession Buster Lunch Menu, Monday – Friday, Lunch

Choose any for $5.99:

4oz. Cheeseburger with French Fries

Petite Sicilian Salad

Caesar Salad with Grilled Chicken

Picnic Special: Soup and 1/2 Sandwich (Turkey, Ham, Tuna)

Penne Pomodoro with Peas (alliteration)

Veggie Lovers Omelet with Home Fries

Any restaurant with a “Recession Buster” menu gets my vote…and my cash.

Ashes

“…ashes, we all fall down!”

No, I may not be dying of the black death. Instead, I’m dying of one too many  high priced drinks at Ashes. If I wanted New York, I’d go there–it’s only an hour away, 40 min by boat. But at Ashes, New York comes to you.

Honestly, though, I like trying to be trendy from time to time. Put on your skin tight, purple shirt, drop a few bucks, and in a New York minute, you can live the Manhattan dream.

So now you want to know about the deals, not my struggling dress code. Deals, they say, are in the works. With ownership changes come some deals, and I’m on the lookout–even if it means showing off my ripped pecs in the mean time.

Via 45

Trust in Claudette, head chef at Via 45.
“Can you make bolognese,” I ask.
“If the sauce is on, I can make it,” she responds assuredly. If it’s not, then let her take you on her culinary quest, offering whatever she might have on the menu that night. As an American, I’m used to picking my favorite from countless choices, not just the best of what’s available. So letting chef tell me what to eat is a bit unsettling. But then again, she’s the pro and I’m the burger bro.

Seeing the lack of deals, I was also a bit concerned.  “Not even a price fix or something? I’ve heard a lot about those lately,” I inquire.

“We can do that.”

I think I can get used to this flexibility.

Deals:

MAKE YOUR OWN

I should probably eat there. Take grandma. You should too. Cheers

Sogno Ristorante

Back in the late 90’s, Andrea Bocelli took the world by storm with his best-selling album, Sogno, bringing Italy to everyone. Now, Italy has lost its allure, and Red Bank is left with a restaurant in the album’s honor. Although you won’t find Bocelli greasin’ his pipes with some pre-show wine at the Red Bank version (he’s out back crankin’ nattys),  you will find a price fix menu. I don’t know what to think of prix fixes at this point. I think they are deals, but they’re still $20+. See for yourself.

Deal:

Sunday – Thursday: Prix Fix Menu, choose appetizer, entree, and do not have your choice of dessert = tiramisu. $25

Tiramisu may be a “pick me up,” but the prices, similar to other prix fixes, I think might be bringing me down. Conflicted :/

Broadway Grill

“Something familiar, something peculiar
Something for everyone: TWO BURGERS tonight!”
–A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Grill

My mom has been doing musical theater for over 30 years, so I have seen lots of performances in and around Red Bank.  This won’t be my last show tune reference. I have also eaten lots of burgers and plan to eat more. Eat

DEAL:

Monday: 2 for 1 Burger Night ($8 for 2), 3PM – Close

“Tragic prices tomorrow, sweet deals tonight!”

Mr. Pizza Slice

I’m pretty sure this slice master has been around forever. I don’t really know the history, buy I do know that he’s got some pretty cheap pizza at $2.50 a slice.

Cheapest pizza I’m aware of is outside the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan. A buck. Anyone else know of cheap slices closer to home?

The Dublin House

Now the “Dublin Mansion”, the previously measly house of booze has been renovated, updated, and borderline Disneyfied, encouraging all walks of life to dine and drink in their area of choice: the front patio, two story, indoor bar and dining area, or back porch. I like stumbling among all three areas during the course of the evening while sipping (guzzling) my Guinness.

This place is always abuzz, especially on a pleasant summer Saturday evening. The ambiance and diverse gathering of guys/gals, NOT the deals, must be the main draw. For those deal lovers, here’s from what I could gather, the loner.

DEAL:

Happy Hour, Monday-Friday, 4-6:00PM, $1 OFF ALL Drinks (except wine)

Keep on the lookout. If more deals arise, please let me know. Erin go Braugh

Teak

Would Sean Connery look down on me if he knew that I ordered a Pomegranate Martini at Teak? Probably. But it was so delicious, and so half off, I will continue to drink my masculinity away. Besides, olives are gross.

This place is the king of half off. I didn’t even bother looking at the prices because I was so intrigued by everything being 1/2 price. Don’t get too excited though, it isn’t half off all the time. Only at designated times and Monday all night. Let me explain.

DEALS:

Monday: 1/2 off EVERYTHING (Food and Drink), 5-10:00PM. “Everyone knows about this,” scoffs the bartender. I wish I knew

Happy Hour, Monday – Friday, 3-7:00PM, 1/2 off EVERYTHING as well. Monday, exception, begins at 5PM, not 3PM

Sunday: All you can eat Sushi, $25. So eat a lot

This is a proverbial “Teak”, Tac, Toe — 3 in a row. ;)

Jamian’s

Echo (can you hear it in the distance?) is gone, and Jamian’s has filled its place. Buona Sera

Michael Cera, meet your maker. Buona Sera is here to stay and they’ve got some deals comin’ your way.

According to a sign out front, they apparently are the “Winner of Wine Spectators Award for Excellence. Monday-Thursday Bottle Wine Bottles 1/2 Off.” Good for them, better for me.

DEALS:

As noted above, plus…

1/2 Price ALL Drinks (so around $5-6), 10-12:00PM, EXCEPT Wine glasses

Oh, and if you’re into Cougars, they prowl around later in the week. Is that a deal?
